Dead Sea Rest and Renewal | Bait Ham Hesda

A Long-Awaited Journey to the Dead Sea: Rest, Reflection, and Renewal

For a long time, the residents and team of Bait Ham Hesda had shared a deep desire to step away from the demands of daily routine and embark on a special journey together. We envisioned a few days of rest at the Dead Sea—a time to swim in its salty waters, find physical refreshment, and look upon the biblical regions where the historic cities of Sodom and Gomorrah once stood.

The Lord, in His infinite mercy, heard our prayers. He touched the hearts of generous supporters, making it possible for our entire house to travel together for an overnight stay. On June 30th, filled with joyful anticipation and high spirits, our big family gathered, packed our essentials, and boarded the Bait Ham Hesda ministry minibus.

We had a journey of about 200 kilometers ahead of us. The closer we approached our destination, the higher the outside temperature climbed. By the time we arrived at the Oasis Hotel, the desert air was scorching, reaching a fierce +43C.

Finding Relief and Fellowship

Stepping out of the minibus, we immediately sought refuge in the hotel’s cool lobby. Even though the breathtaking view of the Dead Sea was visible right through the windows, the relentless, burning sun outside left no one wanting to step out just yet. We settled comfortably into the air-conditioned reception area, deeply grateful to God for providing us with shade and comfort while our rooms were being prepared.

Within ten minutes, we received wonderful news: while waiting for check-in, we were invited to use the hotel pools. We had the choice between an indoor saltwater pool filled with water directly from the Dead Sea, and a freshwater pool in the outdoor courtyard. Exhausted by the long road and the intense heat, the brothers did not need to be told twice. With pure joy on our faces, we moved as one towards the water.

Floating effortlessly in the warm, healing saltwater pool on the first floor, a wave of relaxation washed over us. We could finally feel that we had reached the Dead Sea, where you can safely lie on your back without any fear of sinking. Afterward, we moved to the freshwater pool in the courtyard to fully refresh ourselves.

Abundant Blessings and Comfort

After a few hours of wonderful rest, we were handed the electronic keys to our rooms. The accommodations on the second floor exceeded our expectations, fully equipped with air conditioning, internet, a TV, and a mini-fridge.

No sooner had we unpacked than it was time for dinner. Swimming had given everyone a hearty appetite, and the hotel’s buffet left us amazed. There was an incredible abundance of dishes to satisfy every taste: from various side dishes like potatoes and pasta to delicious crepes, fried chicken, cutlets, an assortment of cheeses, and a sweet finale of various desserts and cakes.

Having enjoyed such a bountiful feast, we slowly made our way out of the dining room. With very full stomachs, the stairs felt like too much of a challenge, so the entire team happily took the elevator instead!

A Night of Deep Spiritual Awakening

Later that evening, after resting in our rooms for about an hour, we gathered back in the lobby for a peaceful walk after sunset. The night air was still thick and warm, but our hearts were light and overflowing with gratitude. Eventually, we returned to our rooms—where the brothers stayed in pairs—and after a time of prayer, we closed our eyes to sleep.

For some of us, this night brought a profound revelation. One of our brothers shared a deeply moving testimony that reflects the true heart of our ministry:

“I had been to the Dead Sea twice before in my past life, but I had never actually swum or floated in it. Back then, my life was consumed by a relentless chase after sin, worldly desires, and fleshly distractions—like trying to visit the lowest bar on the planet. I had no peace, and no time to truly reflect on my life.

But this time, Jesus Christ brought me here through Bait Ham Hesda, and He opened my eyes. I looked around and saw how beautiful and peaceful it is when you are surrounded by brothers in Christ. For the first time, I felt the overwhelming love and care of the Savior, and the grace of the people who faithfully support this ministry.

In the past, I brought nothing but grief, sorrow, and misfortune to the people around me. Yet to a sinner like me, Jesus showed His boundless mercy, giving me a chance at an entirely new life in Him. With a heart full of thanksgiving for this unforgettable day, I fell asleep, trusting that my brothers felt that same divine peace.”

Day Two: The Burning Shore and the Spa

The next morning, we woke up refreshed and headed to the dining room for breakfast. It turned out to be just as incredible as dinner—in fact, the variety and abundance of dishes seemed to surprise us even more! After enjoying a hearty meal, we returned to our rooms for a brief rest before finally heading out to experience the real Dead Sea.

Floating on the calm waters was a deeply peaceful experience for all of us. However, the sea also taught some of us a humorous but painful lesson. When leaving the water, a few brothers accidentally walked out at a different spot—far from where they had left their shoes by the shoreline. They deeply regretted it, as the salty desert shores absorb the intense heat of the sun, making it practically impossible to walk barefoot on the burning ground!

After our swim in the sea, we returned to the safety of the hotel’s air conditioning. We spent our remaining hours exploring the indoor pools, the sauna, and the jacuzzi. For some of the brothers, it was their very first time experiencing a jacuzzi, which brought a lot of laughter and joy. We tried every water treatment available before our departure. Around lunchtime, feeling completely rejuvenated, we loaded our minibus once again and began our journey back.

Homecoming and Faithfulness

When we finally arrived back home, we realized just how physically exhausted we were from the journey. Yet, we were profoundly happy. Each one of us brought back and chose to preserve something good, something warm—a piece of that beautiful love poured into our hearts by Jesus Christ. Every brother returned to the house carrying the memory of that love and care in his heart, fully revealed to us by the Savior during this wonderful trip.

Dear brothers, sisters, and friends of the Bait Ham Hesda foundation! We praise God for these days of physical refreshment and profound spiritual breakthrough. Seeing our residents look at life with new eyes and recognize the glory of God is the greatest fruit of this ministry.

We sincerely thank everyone whose prayers and financial support make these journeys possible. Please continue to pray for our House of Mercy, for the health and spiritual growth of our residents, and for our dedicated staff. Your partnership is our greatest strength!
